Practical guide
Keep image tiles in the right order.
Read across each row from left to right, then move down. Row and column names keep that order visible after download.
Start at the top left
The preview numbers tiles in reading order. In a grid with four columns, tiles 1–4 form the top row, 5–8 form the middle row, and 9–12 form the bottom row. Rows and columns are counted from one.
Use coordinates, not download timing
Each exported name includes a padded row and column. For example, coast.png produces coast-r01-c01.png for the first tile. The prefix uses a simplified source filename, with image- as the fallback when no usable characters remain. The coordinates identify where the tile belongs: a filename containing r03-c04 is always the third row, fourth column.
r01-c01 r01-c02 r01-c03 r01-c04
r02-c01 r02-c02 r02-c03 r02-c04
r03-c01 r03-c02 r03-c03 r03-c04With the 101 × 103 sample, the first tile is 25 × 34 px and the final tile is 26 × 35 px. Keep those sizes when placing the files. The pixel boundary guide explains the one-pixel difference.
Check the ZIP before you use it
- Choose 3 rows and 4 columns in the image splitter and export all tiles.
- Download and extract the ZIP. Expect twelve image files plus the included size and order information.
- Sort image filenames alphabetically. The row and column coordinates give a stable sequence.
- Use the size list to check each tile’s position and dimensions. Start the second row at y = 34 and the third at y = 68.
ZIP entries can appear in a different display order in a file manager. An image editor can also sort by modification time. Read the row and column in the filename if the displayed sequence looks wrong.
When a download does not appear
A successful export means the files were generated. It does not confirm that your browser saved them. Check its download list and any save prompt. On a phone, the browser may offer a share or file-saving menu. If the ZIP cannot be saved, download individual tiles from the result list.
If you change the image, grid, or output settings, export again before downloading. The results must match the current settings. Cancelled work does not count as a complete set.
PicMason’s row order describes the source image. A social platform’s posting or profile order can be different. This tool does not publish posts or promise a particular Instagram or TikTok layout.
